Use case ยท Roommates

Shared groceries between roommates, without arguments.

A shopping list for roommates has to separate two things: what the whole flat uses and what each person buys for themselves. In Paniere you create one list with your roommates for the common items, toilet paper, oil, salt, dish soap, and keep a private list for your own food. Every purchase is recorded with who made it and when, so the question "whose turn is it?" has an answer.

Why does shopping between roommates go wrong?

๐Ÿงป

Nobody notices it is finished

The last roll of toilet paper is always used by someone who forgets to say so. The next person finds out at the worst moment.

๐Ÿ”

Three bottles of oil, no salt

Everyone buys what they think is missing, nobody checks with the others. The cupboard fills with doubles and the real gaps stay.

๐Ÿงพ

Who paid for what?

At the end of the month nobody remembers who bought the detergent and who bought the coffee. That is where most flat arguments start.

How does Paniere organise shopping in a shared flat?

๐Ÿ

One list for the flat

A list with all your roommates for the shared items. Whoever finishes something adds it, whoever goes out buys it.

๐Ÿ™‹

Your own list, only yours

A second list where only you are a member, for your food and your things. Switch between the two with a tap on the name at the top.

๐Ÿ•‘

The history settles it

Every product ticked off is saved with the date and the roommate who bought it. No more arguments from memory.

๐Ÿ’ถ

Prices visible to everyone

Add the price to a product and all members of the list see it. Paniere remembers it for the next time.

How do you set up a shared list with roommates?

  1. 01

Create a list for the flat

In Paniere tap the list name at the top, then New list, and call it with the name of the flat.

  2. 02

    Invite your roommates

From the list menu tap Invite someone and send the link in the flat chat. Whoever opens it joins.

  3. 03

Keep your own list for the rest

Your first list, "Home", stays yours alone if you do not invite anyone to it: use it for your personal shopping.

Frequently asked questions

Does Paniere split the costs between roommates?

+

No. Paniere shows who bought each product and when, and the price if you add it, which makes it easy to settle up. The split itself stays between you.

Can a roommate see my personal list?

+

No. Each list has its own members: only the people you invite to a list can see it.

What happens when someone moves out?

+

The owner of the list can remove a member from the list, and the others keep the list and its history.

Is it free for everyone in the flat?

+

Yes. Paniere is free on the App Store for iPhone, without in-app purchases, for every member.
